The Holboca Commune

Location

Holboca’s territory is located in the eastern part of Iasi at 5 km .

Population

Commune Holboca has a total population of 12.701 inhabitants with the following structure :
* Active population: -5524
* Occupied population: -4911
* Unemployed: - 613

The territorial component

Commune Holboca has comprises 6(six) villages :
* Holboca – the central village of the commune, was mentioned in the official documents from 1640. Here were discovered the first settlement of the Iron Age and the evidence of migration. There is also the Sf. Neculae Church, built in 1805.
* Dancu- in the west part of the commune, at 2 km from the center and 3 km from Iasi, was mentioned in the official documents in 1541
* Cristesti – situated at 3 km from the center, was first mentioned in 1803. Its economical and social development started after the railway was built
* Orzeni- is located at 3 km from the center, was mentioned in the official documents in 1890.
* Rusenii Vechi and Rusenii Noi- are located at 3 and 5 km from the center. The name comes from the ruthenian colonies (the carpato- russians) of Ukraine, from 1710-1712. Here is the “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” Church, built in 1820.
* Valea Lunga- located in the NorthWest of the commune,was first mentioned in 1772

SThe surface of Holboca is 5937 ha of which 3268 ha is agricultural land

Technical infrastructure

1. Water supply: There is a pipeline supply of mixed Timisesti -Prut for drinking water distribution network.The network, with its 7140 m, serves serving approximate 220 households (11.4%)
2. Sewerage There is sewerage network in the commune( 9438m), for approximate 159 households (7.9%)
3. Transportation
* Road – The village is crossed by county road 249A Iasi – Ungheni, communal road 19 and 20
* Railway There is Iasi-Ungheni railway, that makes the connection with Moldavia what about Moldova.The tram number 3 passes also through the Dancu village
4. Gas distribution: In the commune Holboca just the villages Dancu and Holboca benefits of gas distribution network.
5. Electricity: there is electricity in Holboca

Main activities

The main activities of the inhabitants are agriculture and manufacturing.
