The Ciurea commune

Location

The commune Ciurea is located close to Iasi in the South part of the county.

Population

Commune Ciurea has a total population of 10.954 inhabitants with the following structure:
* Active population: - 4578
* Occupied population: - 3863
* Unemployed: - 715

The territorial component

Commune Ciurea has comprises 7 (seven) villages :
* Ciurea - According to historical documents, the origin of this settlement was mentioned in the official documents at the end of the XVII century
* Hlincea is the oldest known settlement built around the monastery Hlincea, the only monument in the village.
* Picioru Lupului is situated on the „Dealul Prisacilor “, in the south of the hill “Sapte tei “.
* Slobozia is situated in the south part of Ciurea, in a picturesque place, on the hill crest Vama Veche, Slobozia Cantemir and La Cioate.
* Curaturi is situated on the plateau and the south-west part of the hill “Oita”.
* Lunca Cetatuii is composed of three hamlet: Baba Necula, Zanea and Juvat. The legend says that the name “Juvat” comes from the fact that in this place, where it was a wine cellar religious, a group of boyars was hanged to have Stefan Tomsa the ruler of Moldavia.
* Dumbrava is the newest settlement from this commune founded by colonization in 1891

The surface of Ciurea is 4772 ha of which:
* 2876 ha agricultural land
* 1896 ha non-agricultural land

The average income per capita in Ciurea was 449,00 lei in 2008

Touristic objectives/ protected areas/ monuments

On 7th May 1660, Vasile Lupu’s son, the voivode Stefan Lupu gave the village in monastery’s possession through royal charter. The monastery Hlincea is the only monument in the area.

1.Water supply: In the commune Ciurea is one of the six pumping stations from the main water collectors from Iasi.
2.Sewerage: Ciurea receives sewage.
3.Transportation:
1. Road – county around 248; communal road 29; communal around 41
2. Railway – the villages Hlincea, Curaturi, Slobozia and Dumbrava have indirect access to the railway, 2 km to the CFR station
- the commune Ciurea is diametrically crossed by the railway Iasi - Bucuresti from North to South
4. Gas distribution: there is a gas distribution network
5. Electricity: of 3108 houses, 2850 benefits of electricity

Main activities

The most part of Ciurea’s population works in Iasi. In the future the Land Fund Law will be applied which will lead to the fact that the population will be predominantly agricultural.
